ABOUT PTA

PTA is the nation’s largest volunteer-led child-advocacy association working to drive improvements in the education, health and well-being of all children and families.

Theodore Roosevelt Elementary PTA is an independent 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that exists to specifically and solely support Theodore Roosevelt Elementary.

With no paid staff, our PTA is supported by 100% volunteer time and talent.  If you have gifts that could support the PTA, please inquire about volunteering.

Dear Roosevelt Families,

Welcome to our new school year of 2023-2024! I’m so honored to be leading the PTA as president this year. Below you will find some helpful links, answers to frequently asked questions, and hopefully inspiration to join us on our mission to make this year outstanding for our kids! We have an amazing team of dedicated, creative, and hard-working volunteers at our school. I am always awed by how much our Roosevelt families do to support our children!

Together we create a community of love, support, imagination, and curiosity! Our children thrive here and it is because of people like you! Our PTA goals this year are to give all our Roosevelt students a world class education. Think for

a moment about what your dreams are for your child. What kind of activities do you think would enrich their education? What kind of environment will nourish them as they develop into the people who can happily thrive in adulthood? What do you wish you could give them? PTA can help you bring these goals to life.

As the pioneering biochemist Helen Dyer once said, “Volunteerism is the voice of the people put into action. These actions shape and mold the present into a future of which we can all be proud.” The beauty of PTA is that it is a tool for us to create the kind of community in which we want to live. Joining the PTA means you get a vote on how we spend PTA funds and what our goals as a group will be. What a powerful way to make your voice heard and to have a direct impact on your child’s life!

What does PTA do?

As you all are aware, Burbank schools are terribly underfunded. To help put things in perspective, LAUSD spends over $24,000 per student. In comparison, Burbank receives about $12,000 per student. Roosevelt PTA has been making up the difference! We fund our music classes, art lessons, school assemblies, campus beautification, your children’s school supplies, our new STEM Lab and field trips!

Perhaps you’ve heard of Roosevelt Musical Revue? Yep, PTA does that, too! We also organize Hispanic Heritage celebrations, the Fall Festival, Harry Potter Night, Spring Festival, the yearbook, spirit gear, the book fair, garden days, Family Fun Nights, Lunar New Year, Family Movie Night... and, oh my gravy, the list goes on and on!

What do we need from you?

It’s actually very simple. We only need 2 things!

1) We need donations to fund the programs we provide for your children.

2) We need volunteers! Of all abilities and levels of commitment!

That’s it!

How do I volunteer?

Step 1: Register as a volunteer. Follow this link

For your convenience, we will have a nurse available to help with the TB form at Back to School Night and our first PTA meeting (August 25th 9am in the auditorium)

Step 2: Volunteering is a great way to show your child that you care about their education! It’s also fun to get a peek into what their lives are like at school! You can volunteer in the classroom, at events, and even from your couch! However you want to give your time, we have a role for you! Keep your eye out for emails from your room parent, Mr. O, or your teacher! We will also post signups on the Friends of Roosevelt Facebook Page!

How do I donate?

What a great question! I’m so glad you asked! Your donations are 100% tax deductible and 100% goes straight to the school. Our direct donation campaign, called Family Giving, is our main source of fundraising. Any amount you can give makes a huge difference to your children! Donate here.

How do I join PTA?

You want to make amazing friends and vote at our meetings and have so much fun all while making the school a better place? We’d love to have you! All are welcome! It’s $9 total to join. (You may volunteer and come to the PTA meetings even if you aren’t a member- you just can’t vote!) Join here.

Where do I get more information?

The Friends of Roosevelt Facebook Page is a font of information. Here you will find connection with other parents as well as up to date details about events, our community, and how to be involved at the school! The school’s website is also a great source to find out teacher contact info, our school calendar, and more!

To find all the links above and more, go to our new PTA website (so fancy!) If in-person is more your speed, come to our first PTA meeting on Friday, August 25th 9am in the auditorium! And it is my pleasure to invite you to The Boohoo Woohoo- a meet and greet right after drop off on the first day of school on Monday, August 14th! We will have treats, coffee, friendship, and information!

Childhood is such a magical time of life. Together we can provide our kids with a safe place to make mistakes, to learn about others, and to be cherished for the unique individuals they are. You can make a major impact in their lives by helping out- even just a little. As my Aunt Susan likes to say, “If you think small things can’t make a big difference, then you, my dear, have never spent the night with a mosquito under the sheets.” Thank you, Friends! I look forward to seeing you all soon

at our beautiful school!

WHAT WE DO

The PTA funds academic enrichment programs, such as field trips or after-school art, drama, music, math and reading programs.  The PTA also funds events and activities that promote family engagement at school, to strengthen home and school relationships.

Due to devastating cuts to the state and city budget in recent years, PTAs are increasingly filling the gaps and helping to fund basics such as classroom supplies and equipment as well as librarians and school nurses.

Each year the PTA assesses its needs and develops a program plan that provides for the unique needs of Roosevelt Elementary.

EVENTS

Events are an important part of family and child enrichment at Roosevelt. Each year the PTA supports a number of events to build confidence and connection. Below are some of the events the PTA hosts for Roosevelt students and families. Learn more.
